Glass Sim, a Google Glass app prototype generator, is now available to all at GlassSim.com. A simple tool for conceptualizing prototype Google Glass apps, Glass Sim allows you to quickly generate a visualization of what Google Glass wearers will see using your app. It’s quick, it’s simple, and it’s free.
Glass Sim, a free web application by mobile computing developer Mutual Mobile, is a surprisingly simple solution to a problem plaguing many startup software developers: defining the intended endpoint for creative software solutions. Fledgling software programmers generally start out identifying the task that they want their software to accomplish and proceed to design an application to achieve that goal. It’s a logical path, and one that software engineers typically employ. However, many find that once they arrive at the destination, it looks nothing like they assumed … the finished product is too complex, unfocused, and lacking in pleasing aesthetics and flow. Glass Sim assists with this common problem by allowing developers to create a visualization of the finished product, thus giving them a clear target upon which to set their coding sights.
Glass Sim is extremely easy to use. First, choose a modifiable template that will determine the format in which your data will appear in the Google Glass display. Second, upload a “Field of View” image, basically an example of the environment in which the user might deploy your app. Third, modify your prototype using HTML and inline CSS. That’s it, press the Share button and out pops a visualization of your yet to be created Google Glass app.
GlassSim.com is quite a handy little tool for Glass app creators wanting to flush out concepts before committing significant time and resources to their development. The site also offers a concept app gallery where you can share your creations or seek inspiration from others who have posted theirs. There are already some interesting an innovative ideas uploaded, so mash the link and check out the pics. And, while you are there, don’t forget to thank Mutual Mobile for offering up this golden resource free of charge.
